Description
The Cleveland CG16 irons are aimed at mid-handicappers but we think a few single figure golfers will like them too.
The thick top line may give the feel of game improvement irons but they don’t feel that chunky, even though the sole is wider than the CG7s they replace.
The offset is there but again is not too great and even though you can just see the back of the cavity on the longer irons, it is still quite subtle.
The face features Cleveland’s excellent laser milled face grooves and the lightweight steel shaft makes them very easy to swing.
The lofts are stronger than normal with the wedge coming in at 44 degrees, but Cleveland say that this is to facilitate ‘gap fitting’ so that you add the right combination of their excellent wedges into the set.
The large thin face and undercut cavity design makes then effortless to hit and very forgiving. Indeed compared to the CG16 Tour irons which you could shape at will, the CG16 were arrow straight and a joy to hit.
Well worth a try.
